Mountain Climbing

Climbing the Hualca Hualca volcano

The Hualca Hualca volcano (6,025 m.a.s.l.), located in the southern region of Peru near the Colca Canyon, is part of the Volcanic Mountain Range in which the Ampato and Sabancaya volcanoes are also located. This stratified volcano presents alternating layers of lava and pyroclastic materials, indicating a history of explosive and effusive eruptions throughout its geological life.

This mountain has been of great importance in the past for the people of Cabanaconde and Pinchollo, who saw it as a divinity and source of water, for this reason they used to perform religious ceremonies to guarantee the continuous supply of water.

If you have adequate acclimatization and are in good physical condition, take on the challenge of climbing a 6,000-meter mountain. The view from the summit is incredible.

Climbing to the Mismi moutain

Finding the source of the world’s most powerful river was not an easy task for the explorers who ventured into the high valleys and steep slopes bordered by the Mismi, Quehuisha and Cutiti snow-capped mountains, located in the Chila Mountain Range.

The water source of the Amazon River, located between the Quehuisha and Mismi snow-capped mountains, is composed of glacial snow and ice that melts at lower levels, thus forming the largest river system in the world. The Amazon River contains almost one-fifth of the fresh, flowing or dynamic water on the planet.

If you’re in Arequipa or the Colca Valley and love climbing mountains and testing your physical endurance, this is a great opportunity to discover this mountain and the place where the Amazon River originates.
